December 2019 Good News

Dr. Decker Hains, P.E., PMP, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in recognition of making significant contributions and developing creative solutions that change lives around the world.  His principle contribution included serving as the editor of the ASCE Body of Knowledge, Third Edition, which was published in May 2019.  He helped lead the nearly three-year effort in updating this strategic work for ASCE.

Only 3% of ASCE members hold the prestigious honor of becoming ASCE Fellows.

 Decker is a master faculty specialist jointly appointed to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Haworth College of Business. Prior to being appointed to faculty, Decker served as the Professor of Military Science and Chair of the Department of Military Science and Leadership at 澳门六合彩官网直播 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving 22 years as an engineer

officer in the U.S. Army.   He leverages his significant leadership and

engineering experiences in teaching a variety of civil engineering courses as well as courses in leadership, business, and management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  He also leads the Civil and Construction Engineering Senior Capstone Design Experience teaching effective leadership, teamwork, ethics, communications, and project management.  Decker also serves on several college and Faculty Senate Committees and is one of the principle leaders with the design and implementation of 澳门六合彩官网直播 Essential Studies.

Several of the programs at Western Michigan are frequently listed among the very best in the country. Perhaps the most noted program at Western Michigan is its aviation curriculum, widely considered a top-5 program nationwide.

With over 30 aircraft vehicles available for their students, Western Michigan provides hands-on, experiential training to future pilots and technicians.

Interestingly, Western Michigan has one of the most prestigious jazz performance programs in the country. In 2018, two students placed in the top
