About
SEMINAR 22
Seminar is a high school summer music camp designed to serve as an enjoyable, pre-college experience for serious, young musicians. It is organized to promote artistic, social, recreational and cultural interaction among the participating young artists. It simultaneously serves as a vital experience for the students as well as a valid artistic representation of the School of Music at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍøÖ±²¥.
School of Music Director of Concerts Kevin West has served as the administrative director of Seminar since 2010, having served as the registrar from 1995 to 2009. School of Music Concerts Assistant David Bernard is the program's registrar.
°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍøÖ±²¥ will observe the 71st consecutive year of its celebrated high school summer music camp in 2022. All sessions are held on the University's main campus in Kalamazoo where some 120 students from seven areas of study—brass, woodwind, percussion, string, vocal/choral, keyboard and composition—gather each summer to pursue and develop their interests in music.
"I learned more in those two weeks than I had in a year of band. Not because I have a bad band director but because it is more advanced and you get lots of individual attention. Seminar also gives you a taste of what college is like. They treat you like adults." – Nicole P., 2016 Seminar student
