Prepare for today's health care workplace
The National Academy of Medicine has identified service delivery skills that are at the center of patient safety, health care efficiency and cost effectiveness. These skills (patient and family centered services, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, health literacy, health informatics, and interdisciplinary team skills) are critical in health care today. The healthcare services and sciences bachelor's degree anchors you in service delivery skills important to all health service careers.
Prepare for professional graduate programs
In addition to the general Healthcare Services and Sciences degree, the BS-HSS program offers three preparatory concentrations - blindness and low vision studies, occupational therapy, physician assistant - that prepare you for graduate programs in those areas. Vision studies also offers accelerated graduate program. In addition, program administrators and advisors will work with students to develop customized pathways for those who wish to apply to graduate school in other health professions such as medicine, dentistry and physical therapy.
Get credit for your work history
If you are already certified in an allied health field, the Clinical Practice in Health concentration can help you earn your bachelor's degree. You can transfer your credits according to University policy and earn up to 30 credits based on previous work experience.
