Dr. Schriever is a freshwater ecologist interested in how environmental variation influences ecological dynamics and diversity patterns across temporal and spatial scales from individuals to the ecosystems. We investigate environmental processes that influence herpetofauna, aquatic invertebrates and fish communities. We use experimental and comparative approaches in field settings in wetlands and rivers. Research topics: 1) Individual, population, and community response to hydrologic variation, including natural variation and dams. 2) The use of stable isotopes to study food webs and trophic ecology of aquatic communities. 3) Track the flow of resources, organisms, and contaminants across habitats. 4) Investigate how environmental variation influences biodiversity, functional traits, and phenology.
