Voice lab quality continues
The Charles Van Riper Language, Speech and Hearing Clinic’s Voice Laboratory provides services for °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍøÖ±²¥ students and employees and for children and adults throughout southwest Michigan and beyond, as far as Illinois and Indiana. Certified speech-language pathologists and graduate student clinicians offer services to individuals and groups in face-to-face meetings or via Skype.
Services include evaluation and treatment for a wide variety of voice-related concerns, including, but not limited to:
- Vocal nodules
- Hoarseness
- Transgender voice services
- Laryngeal cancer
- Unique vocal needs of professional voice users
- Vocal cord dysfunction
- Vocal fold paralysis
- Acid reflux affecting the larynx
Recently, the lab was fortunate to upgrade our evaluation equipment with the new KayPentax Digital Rhinolaryngeal Stroboscopic Evaluation system, which offers digitally-recorded advanced laryngeal imaging and excellent image quality for stroboscopic and endoscopic examinations. In addition, this new system provides for immediate exam retrieval and playback, report generation software, an extensive patient and disorder database system, exceptional stroboscopic light source, using a 5-microsecond flash to ‘freeze’ images of the vibrating vocal folds, and the opportunity for prompt DVD creation for patients, physicians and other referral sources.
