General summary

Oversees operations, program development and overall management for lifelong learning with emphasis in areas such as marketing, fundraising, community outreach, and budget. Displays leadership through presentations for various University and community organizations as well as at regional, state, and national conferences.

Major duties

  • Directs, oversees and evaluates program operations and daily operations of the institute.
  • Works collaboratively with the program advisory board to identify, coordinate, and deliver high quality programming.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with University and external stakeholders.
  • Oversees and evaluates both academic and nonacademic activities.
  • Oversees marketing strategies and implementations.
  • Assesses and implements membership enrollment goals including recruitment, maintenance and retention.
  • Oversees finances in compliance with University policies and serves as primary liaison between the University and Bernhard Osher foundation. Provides reports as required.
  • Administers and oversees fundraising and development programs in cooperation with the University development office.
  • Supervises staff.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience with senior populations.
  • Experience managing volunteers and volunteer boards.
  • Experience in designing successful marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a budget.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
