General summary
Manages the development, installation and maintenance of the University’s telecommunications network.
Major duties
- Plans, designs, installs and maintains the University’s telecommunication network.
- Establishes and promotes policies and procedures to ensure the reliability to the telecommunication network.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of staff.
- Monitors performance of the telecommunication network. Identifies and resolves problems.
- Analyzes network usage and recommends upgrades or expansion.
- Researches and recommends hardware and software, and provides recommendations for equipment and service contracts.
- Manages vendors.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Five years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Vendor management experience.
Required other
- Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.

- Relevant industry certification.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
