General summary
Configures, installs and maintains hardware and software supporting the University’s information technology and telecommunications networks.
Major duties
- Investigates, diagnoses and resolves network access problems.
- Maintains, tests and monitors firewall and intrusion detection systems.
- Adds, changes or removes network hardware, software and end-user identities within the network registration system.
- Configures, tests, installs and maintains network switches, routers and software.
- Documents configuration, installation and maintenance activities.
- Monitors network performance, adjusts configuration to maintain proper operation, and identifies trends in network performance issues.
- Documents network security breaches and applies University policies and procedures to resolve violations.
- Provides training to information technology staff or develops programs or documentation for related training.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in a non-related field from an accredited institution combined with relevant experience.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Required other
- Must be available to provide system maintenance or end-user support outside of normal business hours.

- Relevant industry certification.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
